Bulk Refuse Is Still a Problem
by Fred Sanborn

Despite the newly-enacted bulk waste code which does not permit bulk waste to be put on the curb earlier than 5:00 PM on Thursdays, Olde Towne is still disfigured by discarded furniture, appliances, and construction debris throughout the week. Much of this is generated near the first of the months when tenants move out of their apartments. Landlords have been reminded by the City that mid-week clean-up of this debris will cost them at least $400.00 added to their utility bill, but they fail to notify their tenants of the regulations.

Chronic violators are in the 300 Block of North Street and the buildings on the West side of Washington Street at the intersection of North. If you see bulk waste set out on the curb on weekends and early in the week, call our Trash Inspector, Donna Corbus, or e-mail her at corbusd@portsmouth.va.gov.
